WILLIAM RAE With his family at his side, William, in his 83rd year, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2003 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Agnes of Scotland; his only sister Agnes and her husband Ab Bickerton of Elkhorn, MB, and by his beloved wife Nancy, just two years ago. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children; Irene and Nancy, sons, Thomas and Gordon; father-in-law to Terry Falconer, Gary Smith and Susan Rae; grandfather to Andrew (Leanne) Falconer, James Falconer, Rob (Jodi) Falconer, Chad (Misha) Smith, Dean (Tracey) Smith, Iain, Colin and Graeme Rae; great-grandfather to Lauren Rae Falconer and Colten Robert Falconer; niece Donna (Harold) Grabowski of Toronto, Bill (Sharlain) Bickerton of Elkhorn, as well as many relatives in Scotland and Australia. William was born June 10, 1920 in Clydebank, Scotland. The only son, he worked hard helping out at the family store until he started his apprenticeship at Harlan & Wolfs. There he met his wife, Nancy and were soon married. Dad immigrated to Winnipeg in 1952 and his family followed a few months later. He first started working at the CPR Weston Shops in 1952 until 1960 when he started working at TransCanada Pipelines Station No. 41 in Iles des Chenes, completing 23 years until his retirement in 1983. Golfing and curling were his passions. Playing golf with his Weston Shop pals every weekend at Windsor Golf Course and during the week at Southwood; it was not unusual for Dad to play three or four times a week. In winter, he curled with the CPR men at Kildonan Curling Club as well as St. Vital Curling Club. How he enjoyed his sports. Dad was a quiet, friendly, gentle man who enjoyed a good laugh. A brilliant machinist, and a real craftsman at his profession, receiving many awards and citations for his work at TransCanada Pipeline. Dad was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Scotland Clydebank No. 1234 since 1947. The family of William wish to thank the compassionate and caring staff of Charleswood Care Centre, his home for the past two years. A Service of Remembrance to celebrate Williams life will be held on Friday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m., Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Donations in Williams memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, The Heart and Stroke Building, 6 Donald St, Suite 200, Winnipeg, MBR3L 0K6.
