ORVILLE ROY (BUD) THORSTEINSSON Professional Engineer Orville Roy (Bud) Thorsteinsson, Professional Engineer, beloved husband, father and Afi, passed away February 3, 2003, at the Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, BC. Bud was born in Winnipeg, MB, November 27, 1925, the second son of Jon and Agnes (Millidge) Thorsteinsson. His early schooling was in Norwood Grove. He had just finished commando training with the RCN when the war ended. He then returned to the University of Manitoba where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and received his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1950. His career in highway construction began with the Dept. of Highways, MB Government, then with Commonwealth Const. Ltd. and led to the formation of his own company, Royal Paving Co. Ltd., Contractors and Engineers. After retiring in 1976, Bud enjoyed many happy times travelling and cottage life in the Lake of the Woods, northwest Ontario, with the family. In 1988 he and Eileen moved to Sidney, BC, and then to Arbutus Ridge in 1994 where they built their present home. Bud is survived by his wife Eileen (Jones) sons, Mark (Janice) of Reno, NV, Kris (Debbie) of Calgary, AB, Grant (Tracey) of Winnipeg; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Marcus, Jason, Kirsten, Karin, Amanda, Derek, Jodi; and his brother John E. B. Thorsteinsson of Winnipeg. Bud was predeceased by his parents; and his sister Helen Turner. Cremation has taken place. Services will be at a later date with interment in Little Britain Cemetery, Selkirk, MB, where four generations of his family rest. Donations in Buds memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
