MARGARET (PEGGY) SENKLER PREST
Born: Dec 18, 1914
Date of Passing: Feb 12, 2003
Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (PEGGY) SENKLER PREST (nee PARKER) Margaret (Peggy) Senkler Prest (nee Parker), unexpectedly but peacefully passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on February 12, 2003. Peggy was predeceased by her son Robert (Bobby), aged 2, in 1953, brother Edmund in 1975, and sister Catherine (Kitty) in 2001. Peggy will be sadly missed by husband Tom; daughter Barbara (Arthur) sons, Bill, Doug and Larry (Joanne) her 10 grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Hodgson (Nora) of Winnipeg and Nancy (Harry) Erzinger of Castlegar, BC; and brother William (Pat) Parker of Thunder Bay. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Peggy was born on December 18, 1914 in Lachine, QC to William and Agnes Parker. She was the second eldest of six children, and the eldest girl. Peggy attended La Verendrye, Gordon Bell, and Kelvin High Schools in Winnipeg, then attended the Winnipeg Art School for three years. She worked at Brigdens in Winnipeg on the Eatons catalogue as a commercial artist, then at Canadian Car and Foundry in Fort William doing drafting during the War (her father taught her to draft), and later worked as a draftsman for Bell Telephone in London. There she became friends with Toms cousin Dorothy Smith, who introduced her to Tom, whom she married November 15, 1947 at St. Stephens Broadway Church in Winnipeg. They settled in Goderich, ON, in a small apartment where they began their family, and subsequently lived in various parts of the country, having children in Edmonton, Montreal, Gander and Pembroke before settling down in Winnipeg in 1965. Peggy loved the cottage at Minaki, first at Parkers island and then on Pistol Lake, and spent every summer there, enjoying swimming, boating and canoeing. She regularly attended St. Aidens Anglican Church and was active bowling up until last year. She was very artistic, that being her chosen career in her early working life, and then privately painting in her spare time, usually scenes from Minaki. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Aidens Anglican Church, 274 Campbell St., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank our family and friends for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
