WILLIAM QUINN Peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2003, William Quinn, in his 91st year, passed away at Concordia Hospital. William was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsie in September 1993, his daughter Doreen in May 1992 and his son William Jr. in December 1996. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Shirley Sayer and husband Tom of Montreal and Patricia Paul and husband Ron of Pennsylvania; brother Jim; sister-in-law Irene Probe; caregiver Rosemary Williamson; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. William was born on December 24, 1912 on Melrose Avenue in Transcona to Thomas OQuinn and Mary Moylan. He always said he was a special Christmas gift to his siblings! His father was one of Transconas first settlers. On May 23, 1939 he married Elsie Klara Stewner. William and Elsie both enjoyed music and they shared this love of music by entertaining many seniors groups throughout Transcona. They spent hours volunteering their time at the Pirates Community Skating Rink canteen for many years. William served with the Fort Garry Horse during the Second World War. Last year, he was awarded the "Thank You Canada" medal from the Kingdom of the Netherlands for his part in helping to liberate Holland at the end of the war. He was employed as a pipe fitter at the CNR shops in Transcona. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. William had a special way with children and they all loved his silly jokes and barking dog imitations. "Willie" will be remembered by all who met him for his wonderful sense of humour and generous caring ways. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road with Rev. Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Thank you to the many caregivers who helped William remain in his home for the last years of his life, as he wished. Special thanks to Lenka, Paula, Voytek, Dan and Trudy, the friendly Meals on Wheels visitors and staff at V.A. Canada. Thank you also to the nurses and doctors at Concordia Hospital on 2 East, Dr. Mehta, nurse Cathy and her team, especially nurse Dara. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Williams memory to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or to a charity of your choice.
