Ed was born November 12, 1922 to parents, Albert and Agnes Thomas. Edward leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 30 years, Gladys; also left to cherish his memory are his step-children whom he loved and who loved him: Lyle (Lynda), Terry, Bev (Marty), Barry (Maureen), Marilyn (Leo), Harley, Dean (Janet) Tim (Lori) Les (Cindy). Also his children from a previous marriage; Sharon, Gary (Elaine) Wayne and Mike. Ed was a very special grandpa to Duane; Vance; Clayton; Rick; Sue; Tiffany; Tyler; Tessa; Teighlor; Jamie; Lloyd; David; Becky; Devon; Jesse, Dustin, Crystal, J.J., Brandon, Raechal, Krysten, Spyder, Kaitlyn, Cheryl, Kristen, Tammy, Shawn, Cory; as well as 17 great grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Lou (Sally) brothers-in-law, Mel, Paul, Ron, Gib (Marlene) sisters-in-law, Merle (Bud), Marlene (Gil), Jean, Myrna (Romeo), Mardella (Gerry). Very special aunt Vera and Eds girls, Candace and Betty (Terry) as well as many other family members and special friends. Ed was predeceased by his daughter Janice; his parents, Agnes and Albert; five sisters and two brothers. Ed was a hard worker all his life and he spent his retirement years in Gimli. Ed loved working in his yard or working in the garage. He loved woodworking, and you can find a lot of what he built in yards all over the country. He loved to go camping, play games, and make music as long as he had his family and friends around him. He was a stranger to no one. His two greatest passions in life were his wife and bingo. The family would like to thank Dr. Weisenthal and the staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital for the care they gave Ed in his last days. A viewing will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at Gimli Lutheran Church. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 17 at Gimli Lutheran Church. Pastor George Johnson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Porth, Tommy Knott, Gordon Cheyne, Ken Gowler, Reg Mason and Dr. Jonas Johnson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
