MARY ELISABETH PRESCOTT Peacefully, on March 25, 2003 at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital, Mary Elisabeth Prescott, second daughter of Arthur and Gudne Miller and beloved wife of the late John Angus Prescott. Mary was born in Winnipeg on October 1, 1909, and spent most of her busy and fruitful life in West Kildonan. She was educated at Centennial School and later at business college, and until her marriage in 1933, she was employed in the Audit Office of the T. Eaton Company. Mary served her church and community faithfully. She was a member of St. Annes Anglican Church from the age of three, where she served as a Girl Guide leader, a member of the Altar Guild, and as president, for many years, of St. Annes Womens Auxiliary. In recognition of her service, she was made a Life Member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Anglican Church of Canada. She helped organize any number of church teas and harvest suppers, and her cakes, pies and bread were always in great demand. In later years she was instrumental in the founding of the Burrin Avenue Friendship Club, a lunch club for seniors, for which she also did much of the cooking. In addition, for many years after her widowhood, Mary worked as a volunteer in the Synod Office of the Diocese of Ruperts Land. Mary was a talented crafter whose crochet work was especially prized for its delicacy. When she wasnt working, Mum was an avid bowler, and in her later years especially enjoyed her get-togethers with the Gambling Gals. She also loved to travel and treasured her memories of trips across North America and in Europe. Most of all, she loved her summers on the eastern beaches of Lake Winnipeg, Grand. Belair and Victoria. Besides her husband John and her grandson Brett Waddell, she was predeceased by her sisters, Carrie Robertson, Nita McLennan, and Lil Bewick. She is survived by her children, Judith and Peter Flynn, Tom and Lorraine Prescott, Lorna Prescott, Carolyn and John Hample, and Joan and Russell Colnett; by her grandchildren, Laura and Terry Curbishley, Vicki Prescott, Catherine Flynn, Sharon and Dan Stimpson, Michael Sutton, Christine and Darcy Rusnak, Ben and Sherri Flynn and Russ Colnett; by her great-grandchildren, Pat Curbishley, Jess Curbishley, Robin Stimpson, Breandan Waddell-Flynn, Adam and Nicholas Rusnak; by her brother-in-law Bert Evans, and many nieces and nephews. The family is deeply grateful to the attendants of the Winnipeg Ambulance Service and the Emergency Room staff at St. Boniface Hospital and for the extraordinary care and compassion shown by the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Mary will be lovingly remembered for her common-sense and great dignity - which she combined with a wonderful sense of the absurd. She was the best mother, nana and great-nana anybody could wish for. She will be missed. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28 at St. Annes Anglican Church, corner of Burrin and Aitkins, the Rev. David Adams officiating. Friends may, if they wish, make memorial donations to St. Annes Anglican Church or the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
