BESSIE KATZ MITCHELL April 19, 1916 - March 28, 2003 Bessie leaves to mourn her children, Ben and Rachel Mitchell; two granddaughters, Zenab Ihsan and Samantha Steele-Mitchell; and brother-in-law Sam Goltzman. She was predeceased by her parents, Ben Zion and Dora Katz; two sisters, Lil Katz and Clara Goltzman; and niece Brenda Goltzman. Bessie was the anchor in her family. Her unconditional love and acceptance kept us all going. Bessie was employed in the candy making and garment industries for many years where she enjoyed working with many recent immigrants or first generation Canadians like herself. After her marriage to Morris Mitchell in 1949, Bessie moved to Saskatoon where she raised her family. She had many happy times with all the neighbours on Hardy Crescent; many cups of coffee were shared with close friends. After returning to Winnipeg in the mid-70s, Bessie continued to be an inspiration to her family. She loved music, art, colour, design and cooking. Her sense of style entered all her endeavours and she left her own wonderfully original stamp on many creations, but most of all, she left us with the gift of being her family. We will always love and cherish our mom and Baba. Funeral was held Monday, March 31 at Chesed Shel Emes.
