HELEN OLGA (YENDRYS) TIESSEN (nee KMETIUK) Baba It is with great sadness that the family of Olga Tiessen announces her peaceful passing on May 9, 2003, at the age of 81 years, after a long and active life. Left to mourn her passing, and cherish her memory, are her children, Juliana Dueck, Shirley Luhtala and Edward (and Donna) Yendrys; her grandchildren Dorie-Anna Dueck, Trevor Dueck, Elliot Luhtala, Justine Luhtala, Edward Yendrys, and Lynda (and Paul) Vanden Enden; her brother Len (and Catherine) Kent; and many close friends. Olga was a fiercely independent woman, who proudly displayed a very active social calendar. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxilary of the Royal Canadian Legion (Sam Steele Branch), as well as many other seniors groups. She was recently honoured by the Legion for her "unselfish and dedicated service". She was truly a social butterfly, who easily embraced strangers as new friends. She enjoyed a quick wit, laughing, and sharing of jokes. But, her greatest passion was her love of dancing. She was often the first one on the dance floor, and the last one off. She eventually earned a Bachelor of Square Dancing. Olga also had a great love and respect for animals, a gift she imparted to her family. While living in British Columbia, her home was a bounty of 10 cats, five dogs, and many geese. Her most recent cherished companions were her dog Munchkins, and her guinea pig Princess. Although she was a wonderful cook, sharing recipes and baking tips, she enjoyed the simple things in her kitchen -- her tea, homemade perogies, sour cream and cottage cheese. Olga was dearly loved by her family and friends. We were honoured to have shared her life. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will take place at Klassens Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Thursday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society. The Master walked in His garden Plucking flowers along the way He plucked Baba to add to His bouquet My Lord has a need for just this one For the pattern He has in mind: But its hard for the rest of us to see When we must be left behind. We love you. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
