Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUGUST VASSART March 21, 1913 - May 26, 2003 Peacefully, on Monday, May 26, 2003 with his wife and family by his side, August Vassart passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre at the age of 90. August was born in Grande Clariere, MB on March 21, 1913, son of Joseph and Leonie Vassart. The family moved to Dry River District, north of Pilot Mound when August was five years old. He grew up in the area and met and married Josephine Foley of Mariapolis in 1938. Together they farmed and raised seven children in the area. In 1961 they moved to Cartwright where they farmed until 1977 when they moved to town. In 2001, August and Josie moved to Winnipeg, for health reasons and to be closer to their family. August lived at the Golden Door until he passed away. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Josie, his wife of 64 years, his children, Lucy, Jim, Doreen, Pat, Garry, Denis and Bev and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren as well as three sisters and several nieces and nephews. August was interested in hunting, fishing and baseball, which he played for several years. In later years he curled and played pool. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. in Winnipeg. Interment will take place at St. Vital Parish Cemetery/Fort Garry, 826 Crescent Dr. Lunch will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
