NORMAN CONVEY HERMISTON It is with a profound sense of sorrow that the family announces the passing of Norman Convey Hermiston. Norm, as his family and friends knew him, will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his sons, Darryl, Don, and Jack (Lynne) daughter Rosemary; grandchildren, Dylan (Kelly-Lee) and Heidi; great-grandchild Gavin; and numerous extended family and friends. Norm was predeceased by his wife Vera; his son Robert; brothers, Russel, Horace (Hermy), and Douglas; and sister Nora. Norm was born in Port Arthur, ON in 1914. His family moved to Winnipeg when he was still a small child. During the period of 1934 to 1942, Norm held an assortment of jobs such as transporting oil and gas for Esso, building highways in Saskatchewan and constructing two airports during the first years of the Second World War. In 1941, Norm met Vera Morosoff, his future wife of 56 years. Norma and Vee were married in 1942 in Yorkton, SK. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Winnipeg, where they built their lives and raised four boys. In 1942, Norm joined the navy and served in Kenora, ON training cadets. After the war, he got a job with the municipality of West Kildonan and worked there until the various municipalities amalgamated. During this period, Norm got a job as a plan examiner with the City of Winnipeg and worked there until his retirement in 1979. After retirement, Norm worked as a building consultant for a number of years until he and Vee moved to Victoria, BC. After a number of years on the west coast, the draw of family brought them back to Winnipeg where they lived the rest of their lives amongst family and friends. A memorial service is being held on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, located at 1442 Main St. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. 586-8044
