DOROTHY MURIEL PORTEOUS (nee JENNINGS) June 6, 1918 - July 6, 2003 Dorothy passed away quietly at home on Sunday, July 6, 2003. She was born in Winnipeg on June 6, 1918 to Franklin and Gladys Jennings who raised seven children in a happy, loving home. This instilled the loving values that Mom practiced her whole life. She married the love of her life, Edward (Ted) Porteous on November 30, 1944, and together they shared their lives and raised three daughters. Mom was very creative and had many special talents. During the Second World War, she sang and entertained the troops. She was a gifted artist, seamstress and exquisite baker. Mother was a wonderful friend and neighbour. She always put the concerns of others before herself. She was a lifelong member of Deer Lodge United Church and was very active in her community. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Ted; her sisters, Marjorie and Gladys; brother Frank; stepsister Jessie; and stepbrother Truman. Mom will be greatly missed by her daughters and "sons", Maggie and Gord McNaught, Patty and Artie DeFehr and Gayle and Steve Hrousalas; brother Dick Jennings (Phyllis) many dear nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dorothy McNaught and Agatha DeFehr. Her heart was full of love for her grandchildren, Trish, Mary Pat, Brent, Andrew, Gordie, John, Rob and Meghan McNaught; Teddy, Ardyth and Collin DeFehr; and Heather and Patricia Hrousalas who gave her endless joy. Grandma was their greatest fan and was involved in all of their activities. She attended all of her grandsons hockey games, granddaughters soccer games and all of their school ceremonies. Mother had a zest for life and enjoyed every minute of it. She had the uncanny ability of making people she met feel special and always brought out the best in everyone. Although plagued by many health problems throughout her adult life her positive attitude never wavered. We are thankful for the devotion shown at home to our mother by Hilda, Paula, and Nellie and are grateful for the special care given by Dr. J. Foerster, Thanh and The CancerCare Unit; Dr. M. Verrelli and the nurses of the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit; Dr. Warrington and Dr. N. Fontigny. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothys memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., R3E 0V9 or Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., R2H 2A6. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave. "Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of Gods kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting." - Mother Theresa Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
