CHARLOTTE QUANSTROM It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt Charlotte Isabelle Quanstrom on July 16, 2003 at Oakview Place. Charlotte (Shaw) was born on February 17, 1915 in Carnduff, SK, the youngest of five children of Eddie and Mina Quanstrom. Her early education was at Carnduff before coming with her family to Dufresne, MB in 1934. She attended business college in Winnipeg and later worked at Midwest Aircraft during the Second World War, living with her sister Pearl Crayston and her children, while their father was overseas. In 1946, her family sold the Dufresne farm, acquired a farm in Charleswood, but lived in Winnipeg. This permitted Shaw to live with her parents and brother Carl. She then worked at Acme Motors. In the early 1950s, her father had a stroke. She left her employment to care for her aging parents and continued to help her extended family wherever she was needed. After her parents passed away, she continued to live with her brother Carl until his passing in 1996. Through the years, Shaw took many evening courses, including French and Spanish, which she used in her travels. She enjoyed travelling, spending winters in Arizona or Texas, as well as trips overseas and to Hawaii. She attended the Canadian Club, which kept her well informed on her various interests. Shaw was a member of St. Stephens Broadway United Church, after Grace United closed, and an active member of the U.C.W. until the last six years. Her friends in her group were very important to her. Charlotte was predeceased by her mother and father; her brother Carl Quanstrom; sisters, Caroline Leighton, Esther Siddorn and Pearl Crayston; nephew Shaen Siddorn; and great-nephew Tory Leighton Davis. Shaw will be remembered by her nieces, Sandra Stewart, Gail Jones (E.W. Barry), Merrilee Crandell (Bryan) nephews, Dwight Siddorn (Norma) and Jack Crayston; great-nephews, Kevin (Dolores) and Todd Jones, Steed and Trent Crandell; great-nieces, Kim Olson, Joanne Eckert, Carolanne Cadenhead and Colleen Humphrey, Susan Siddorn; great-nephews, Gordon, Christopher, Carey and Jason Siddorn and their respective families. Her family would like to sincerely thank all the staff of the Oakview Place Personal Care Home who have cared for Charlotte over the last couple of years, and particularly those who gave her such personal care over these last difficult weeks. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
