HAZEL QUANE September 6, 1913 - October 2, 2003 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother at Boyne Lodge, Carman on Thursday, October 2, 2003. Hazel was born in Wawanesa, moving to Melita with her family at age 11, where she met and subsequently married L.E. "Pop" Quane in 1939. Pop predeceased her in March, 1990. Hazel and Pop made Melita their home. They were blessed with three daughters, Marilyn, Verla and Eleanor. Hazel was a devoted daughter, wife and mother who always put the needs of others first. She took joy in creating a warm and inviting home which she freely shared with extended family and many friends. As the grandchildren arrived, she was always ready to lend a helping hand, be it for hours or weeks. She enjoyed the challenges of owning and operating the Fashion Centre for several years with Molly Kirby as her partner. Hazel was active in the community throughout her life, participating on many levels in various church and community organizations. In October 1998 when Hazel could no longer live independently, she moved to Boyne Lodge in Carman. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude to the staff at Boyne Lodge who treated her with such dignity, respect and loving care. Left to miss her loving, gracious ways and to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marilyn Armstrong, Verla (Jim) Driedger and Eleanor (Terry) Jenkins; her grandchildren, Wendy Armstrong, Dawn (Kevin) Marr, Allison and Ward Armstrong, Brad (Kim) and Ryan (Trish) Driedger, Chris, Andrea, and Mike (Jenkins) as well as 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lillian Snead, 11 nephews, nine nieces and many special friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 4, in the Victoria United Church in Melita with Rev. Richard Cook officiating. Pallbearers were Ward Armstrong, Brad Driedger, Ryan Driedger, Jim Driedger, Terry Jenkins and Randy Quane. Interment was at Melita cemetery. Redpath-Nestibo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. If friends so desire donations in her memory may be made to Victoria United Church - Building Fund, Box 159, Melita, MB ROM 1L0 or to Boyne Lodge, Box 910 Carman, MB R0G 0J0.
