GORDON DOUGLAS PURKESS Passed away peacefully at the MacGregor Health Centre on Sunday, November 23, 2003, Gordon Purkess, aged 74 years, of MacGregor, MB, beloved husband of Mae. Gordon grew up in the Pratt district, where he worked almost as hard as he played on his parents farm. He married Mae Cathcart in July of 1955 and together they worked and played for the next 48 years. Gordon spent the years since his retirement as MacGregors Esso agent, fishing, hunting, reading, and travelling. He enjoyed a good crib game and once a week he, Mae, and Jake would enjoy an evening of crib. Gordon loved his grandchildren and spent many an hour caring for them, teaching them, playing with them, and telling them stories. A teller of tales, a weaver of stories, an entertainer and practical joker, Gordon was all of these and more. He will continue to live on in the memory of family and friends as they weave stories of their own. Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary Purkess; brothers, John, Jim, and Harry; and stepsister Mary. Gordon leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mae; children, Patti (Russ) Loewen, Robert Purkess, Cheryl (Rick) Seitz; grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Jason, Nathan, Veronica, Joshua, Alyssa, and Sean; sisters, Evelyn Kilfoyle, Edith (Robert) Woodward, Lilly (Roy) Patterson, and brother Norman (Donalda) Purkess. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Pauls Anglican Church, MacGregor, MB with Father Chris Arthur officiating. Interment will follow in the Sidney Cemetery.
