ALVIN THOMAS Peacefully at Grace Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, Alvin Thomas passed away on December 9, 2003 at the age of 76. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Minnie Thomas; and a sister Marilyn. Al is survived by Lois, his loving wife for 54 years; daughter Lynn (Ron), grandchildren, Bryce, Rhys and Brittany of St. Albert; son Lloyd (Diane), grandson Keaton of Winnipeg; son Brian (Kristy) of Vancouver; brother Jim (Jean) of Regina; sister Evelyn of Vancouver; as well as many nieces and nephews. Al grew up and received his education in Regina, SK. He joined Singer Sewing Machine Co. in 1951 as a salesman, promoted to manager in 1956, then district manager in 1962 moving to Saskatoon. In 1967, Al and family moved to Winnipeg as distribution supervisor for Western Canada, responsible for new store locations and renovations. After 34 years, Al and Lois purchased the factory service centre, Midtown Sewing Centre. After seven years, they sold their business and retired in 1992. Al and Lois travelled to many parts of the world on Singer conventions and meetings. Al claimed he lived a charmed, full life. He was most proud of his familys achievements and work ethics. Al has volunteered in many organizations such as Neighbourhood Watch, Director of Better Business Bureau, Rotarian-Paul Harris Fellow, West Winnipeg. He was also an active member of 283 Anavets, and past president of the Over 55 and Retired Club. Al loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his two sons. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jason, Dr. Renouf for their great care. Also Dr. Lorne Brandes and Dr. Butler and staff at CancerCare, Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group, 705-776 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0X1 or a charity of your choice. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Cremation will take place and a celebration of Als life will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. A reception will follow at ANAF, 3584 Portage Ave. "As long as hearts remember, as long as hearts still care, we never part with those we love, they are with us everywhere."
