RENE JOSEPH RATTE It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Rene Ratte on January 4, 2004. Rene was the youngest and the last of his 14 brothers and sisters. Rene was born July 10, 1931 in St. Boniface, MB. He lived in Winnipeg until he joined the Army. He was given an honorary discharge after serving in the Korean War. He then joined his parents at their home in Ashern, MB. While in Ashern, he met and married Yvonne Patricia Mantik. After the birth of their first child, they moved to Winnipeg to raise their family. Rene worked at various companies as a mechanic to support his wife and family. Rene and Yvonne enjoyed league bowling, taking their family on trips to British Columbia and sharing the joy of camping with their kids. In his retirement, Rene enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and listening to his Sunday radio show on CFRY. He was instrumental in helping to bring the dialysis unit to Ashern, which gave him the honour of cutting the opening day ribbon. Rene made many friends everywhere he went because of his great personality and sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yvonne; his children, Cliff and Pat (David, Lindsey and Ryan), Jim and Heather (Andrew and Jennifer), Donna and Butch (Kenny, B.J., Gage and Cole), Joanne and Don (Lori, Damien and Crystal), Debbie and Lance (Melissa and Hugh), Michael and Denise (Kevin, Brendan, Nathan, Kurtis, Clayton, Sydney, Kristopher, Michael, Eric and Janine), Donald (Cerise and Jessica), Les and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bobby (Susie) Mantik, Isabel (Paul) Kiesman, Margeret (Paul) Nouge, Norman (Linda) Mantik, Donald (Lyla) Mantik, Stanley Mantik, Glenda Mantik, Rusty Lamoureux and Georgette and Pearl Ratte; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Narcisse and Marie Louise Ratte and by his grandchildren, Niki and Marc Taylor. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Interment to follow in the Ashern Cemetery. Viewing at the hall prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, home-care workers, various businesses in Ashern and the many others who helped him during his illness and in his daily life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ashern Dialysis Unit care of Nettie Geisler, Ashern, MB. Arrangements By: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072
