DOV (DAVE) PERLOV
Date of Passing: Jan 24, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOV (DAVE) PERLOV On January 24, 2004, Dov (Dave) Perlovs family said goodbye to not only their father and grandfather, but to their inspiration and mentor. Family: Bella and Danny Weinberg, Jack and Dena Perlov; grandchildren Orly, Alon, Tali, Aaron and Lisa; great-granddaughters Naomi, Daphna and Karinne. Dov was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Yochevet. Theirs was a lifelong romance started during the beginnings of the Second World War within the context of Zionist dreams, Nazi persecution, depravation, and loss. They kept each other alive bound by unwavering devotion. During the war, he survived the loss of his home and family; the blitzkreig as a Polish army recruit; imprisonment in the degrading and oppressive Shavli ghetto; and the loss of his firstborn son, David. He escaped just prior to the liquidation of the ghetto and, as a refugee, fought with the partisans and was part of the Zionist underground sending Jews to the promised land, Palestine. Dov finally arrived there himself in 1946, sick and poverty-stricken, only to find himself again a participant in Israels 1948 War of Independence. In 1952, Dov moved to Winnipeg to join his remaining siblings. He opened his own business, the aptly named Miracle bakery which became his passion and his pride. A man who masked his various traumas with sparkling eyes and a cheerful, joking disposition, Dov was always ready to recount one of his many heroic adventures in which he outsmarted his adversaries. In addition to his own accomplishments, Dov took great pride in those of his children and grandchildren, whom he greatly influenced and who adored him. After nursing his beloved Yochevet through her 10-year battle with Alzheimers Disease, Dov was also subjected to his own six year battle with ALS. Through it all, he kept his joy of life and of the living, maintaining his dignity and his interest in all those lucky enough to interact with him. Through it all, he never lamented his decline and, as such, will remain a model of strength and wisdom to those who knew him. Dov will be sorely missed but always in our hearts. Donations in memorium may be made to the Jewish Foundation.
