PETRA LOVISE OLSEN Peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2004 at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Petra, aged 98, made lifes final journey to join "Jimmy", her late husband of over 50 years. Petra was born June 23, 1905 in the Nord Trondelag province of Norway. She left her family and friends and immigrated to Canada in 1927, at the age of 22 years, accompanied by her friend "Bertha". Petra met Jimmy and they wed in 1933. A child was born the following year but did not survive. Jimmy died in June 1984 after 51 years of a harmonious and solid marriage. Petra never returned to Norway, having decided to make Canada her home. For many of her early years she spent summers with Jimmy, working at Holst Point in Minaki. Winters were spent in Winnipeg, where Jimmy was employed by the T. Eaton Co. Petra was a wonderful cook and many will recall the bountiful table she and Jimmy prepared and hosted for friends. She was a longtime member and the last survivor of a Norwegian ladies social club known as Solglott and will be remembered by the children of former members. She will be missed by friends from Minaki, Winnipeg and Victoria, and in particular by Vicktor and Christaine Molund and Greta and Erick Helgason. As a resident of The Convalescent Home for the past nine years, Petra is fondly remembered by the staff as a very special and unique person. Many thanks to all the staff, who cared for her over the past nine years. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 26 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. Private interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
