ULIANA RADAWETZ
Born: Dec 21, 1919
Date of Passing: Apr 02, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryULIANA RADAWETZ With deep sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing unto eternal rest of our dear mother and baba on Friday, April 2, 2004. Uliana (Julia) leaves to mourn her son Myron and wife Natalia (nee Picklyk), daughter Lesia and husband Dr. Greg Palaschuk; son Andrew and wife Shirley (nee Yakimchuk) seven dearly loved grandchildren Emilia, Joseph and Anna, Alexa and Christian, Mykaila and Lucas, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins in Ukraine, and relatives in the United States. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael in 1999, her infant son Joseph in 1960, and all her brothers and sisters. Uliana (Nechyporuk) was born on December 21, 1919 in Selo Peremorivka, Volyn region of Western Ukraine, and was the youngest of twelve children. As a young woman in 1942, Uliana was taken from her homeland to work in Germany as a forced labourer. She did not return to Ukraine after the war, but immigrated to Canada five years later, hoping for a better life. Uliana worked at Grace Hospital for one year followed by employment at United College (University of Winnipeg). Uliana had many fond memories of these years befriending and serving the students. Uliana met her future husband Michael Radawetz in Winnipeg and they were married in 1954. After raising her three children, she resumed working in the service industry at the Fort Garry Hotel and St. Charles Country Club, fondly reminiscing about these years. She was a devout Christian and parishioner of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral for over forty years. Her strong faith in God sustained her through the many trials in her life, especially the war years in Germany. Uliana was a devoted and caring wife, mother and baba who took pride in her culinary and homemaking skills. Our parents home was always open to family, friends and neighbours. We have many fond memories of family dinners at our parents home, enjoying great meals, conversation and company. Our mother lovingly tended to and took great pride in her flower garden and potted plants at home. She was an avid reader, who would stay up late into the night reading and pursuing knowledge. She highly valued education and encouraged and supported her childrens pursuit of higher education and was proud of their achievements. Our mother had a deep sense of fulfilment knowing that the love and respect that she felt towards her Ukrainian heritage and Christian faith are shared by her children and grandchildren. Our mothers spark for life was greatly diminished after our fathers passing in February 1999. She missed him terribly and looked forward to reuniting with him in Gods Heavenly Kingdom. We take great comfort in knowing that our parents are together again. Panahyda (prayers) will be sung at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6 at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with responses by Hoosli Ukrainian Folk Ensemble. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7 at the cathedral with Rev. M. Kouts officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Ehr, Roman Korbutiak, Peter Palaschuk, Dr. Rob Palaschuk, Tony Perrella and Rod Picklyk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pomich Ukraina (Aid to Ukraine) or to Ukrainian Canadian Social Services (Manitoba Branch). May her memory be eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat!
