LILLIAN CATHERINE GRAY PORTER (nee JOHNSTONE) Lillian passed way peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the Central Park Lodge in Brandon. Mom was born on July 6, 1914 in Winnipeg to William and Georgina Johnstone. She attended General Wolfe School and then worked at the Woolworths lunch counter for several years before leaving to marry Bill Porter on July 31, 1937. Mom made friends wherever she went. She was a tireless worker for church groups and her cooking skills and sewing talents were put to good use. She loved to entertain and travel and later in life when Dad was hospitalized family and friends were always welcome to drop by for a meal or just a friendly visit. In her 79th year she joined Patricia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and loved working for their craft and bake sales. When her health began to fail she moved to Brandon where she continued to make new friends. Predeceased by her parents; husband; brothers, Billie, Dick, David and Jack; sister Georgina; and nieces, Pat and Shirley. She is survived by sons, Bill (Marion) and Rick (Peggy) grandchildren, Casey (Sheryl), Stephen (Deborah), Jeffrey (Lori) and Lindsay (Arron) great-grandchildren, Kayla, Deanna, Alex and Holly; her brother Harold in Vancouver; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Georgie and Henry Gutowski and Jackie and Neal Harrison. She is also remembered by special friends, Arleigh Perkins and Pat Bozyk. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held Saturday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Friends attending are invited to gather at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Central Park Lodge who treated her so well and made her last few years so comfortable. If friends wish, a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, would be appreciated.
