Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA PROTASIEWICH On Saturday, July 3, 2004, Bertha Protasiewich, aged 91 years passed away. Bertha was predeceased by her mother, Emilia in 1965 and her father Karl in 1970. She was also predeceased by her brother Walter and her sister Anne. She is survived by her brother Michael (Mickey) her niece Donna McVety; her nephews, Carl and Danny Protasiewich, Wayne Jackiew; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Bertha was born on January 22, 1913 in Winnipeg. She completed her high school education as well as receiving her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. Bertha then taught for six years after graduating and then began working in the Social Work Department of the Winnipeg School Division for 22 years. After completing her work with the Social Work Department she began substitute teaching for five years prior to her retirement in 1981. Bertha was originally a member of the St. Vladimir and Olga Parish, where she participated in choir and drama. Bertha then became and was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish since its inception. At the Blessed Virgin Mary she was also a choir member as well as being the resident organist for over 35 years. In addition, Bertha also taught Sunday school and Catechism at Blessed Virgin Mary as well. Bertha was also a wedding organist and soloist and wedding instructor for over 35 years in the City of Winnipeg. Bertha was also a member of the Institute Prosvita, where she was a choir member as well as a member of the Drama Department. Prayers will be said on Thursday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rt. Rev. Mitrat Gregory Oucharyk officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Berthas memory to a charity of ones choice.
