ALICE EVELYN BARBARA THOMSON (CLARKE) (nee KING) Peacefully, on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the Betel Home in Selkirk, Evelyn Thompson, aged 93 years of Selkirk. She was born on April 23, 1911 in Spy Hill, SK to the late Ann and Fred King. The family moved to Birtle when Evelyn was young and it was there she learned to play the piano and organ. She played for the Church and sang in the choir. She moved to Winnipeg in her early 20s where she worked for Monarch Life Assurance Company. Evelyn met John Alexander (Jack) Clarke through the Winnipeg Canoe Club in the mid 1930s, married and raised their two boys, Barry and Peter. Jack passed away in 1973. In 1978 she married a long-time friend William Graham (Bill) Thomson, living in Winnipeg Beach and wintering in Mission, TX for several years until he passed away in 1985. She enjoyed golfing and curling all of her life, along with social events in the community. Evelyn lived in Gimli for several years until moving into the Betel Home in Selkirk in 1999. Evelyn is survived by her son Peter (Fran) grandchildren, Lisa Clarke in Vancouver, BC, Jackie Schroeder (Shawn) in Lloydminister, AB, Chris Clarke (Holly) and Shawn Clarke (Lisa) of Winnipeg; four great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley Lyall of Salmon Arm, BC. She was also predeceased by her son Barry and his wife Edith; and two brothers, Leslie and Lloyd. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
