NORA JANET NIELSEN 1909 - 2004 Peacefully on October 4, 2004, Nora Nielsen passed away at Vista Park Lodge at the age of 94 years. Born and raised in Waskada, MB, she was predeceased by her father Hans in 1915; her sister Jean in 1932; and her mother Maggie in 1959. Nora clerked for various merchants in Waskada, moving to Winnipeg in 1959 to take secretarial training. After graduation, she embarked on a career with the Department of Education until time of her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Rebecca Assembly of Manitoba. Nora had a passion for life and enjoyed learning about everyones heritage. She had a terrific sense of humour and enjoyed a good joke. Nora was a strong, independent and generous individual, always having deep concern and questions about friends and family. Honesty and appearance were especially important to Nora - not only for herself, but also for others - and even as her health deteriorated she took great pride in her appearance. In earlier years she travelled to Ireland, England, Barbados, and several times to the west coast. Nora was always interested in current affairs and enjoyed reading her daily newspaper and did so faithfully until the time of her passing. She loved animals and birds and took a great interest in "Smokey" the rabbit and the birds at Vista Park Lodge. Her caregivers would like to thank the staff of Metropolitan Kiwanis Court, Parkview Place and Vista Park Lodge for the loving and compassionate care you gave Nora. Also, to those who visited, telephoned or communicated by letter, we know she cherished each and every one of these acts of kindness. Nora, memories of your lovely smile, your sharp wit, as well as your straightforwardness will remain in our hearts forever. May you now be at peace in the arms of our heavenly Father. At Miss Nielsens request, there will be no formal service. Private inurnment will take place at the Waskada Cemetery in the family plot. Donations in her memory can be made to The Salvation Army, Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. Smith Funeral Home, Deloraine, Manitoba, in charge of arrangements.
