Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRVINE VICTOR POWLES Peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2004, granddad passed away at the age of 94 at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. Granddad was born on January 9, 1910 in Winnipeg, MB and he had a good, full life. He was predeceased by his wife, Flora in 1997; his daughter, Flora Leverington in 1996; and son-in-law Jim Leverington in 1994. He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Charles, Eva, Rose, Cecil, and May. He will be dearly missed by his granddaughter Deb (Reid) Harcus, and is survived by his two grandsons, Irvine (Christina) Leverington and Bob (Mary) Leverington; eight great-grandchildren, Mike (Heather), David, Dwight, Jilian, Jimmy, Liam, Alexander and Chelsey; and two great-great grandchildren, Cora and Leah. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who plan to gather for a Powles family reunion in 2005. Granddad was a giving, devoted, creative and amazing man. He was a machinist by trade, and apprenticed with the C.P.R. in 1928. He worked at Parkhill Bedding & Furniture for 32 years, retiring in 1968. In 1952 he joined the Masonic Lodge and was still a member when he passed away. He and grandma had a camp at Laclu, which they both enjoyed and we all had fond memories of. He moved from Winnipeg to Stonewall in 1968 and then spent another eight years working with the mentally disabled in the Interlake until he retired again in 1976. At the age of 63, with one leg, he learned to cook and keep house after grandma had a severe stroke in 1973. He spent his next 24 years caring for her in the little house on 3rd Street West in Stonewall. He loved his visits with family and friends, and spent many happy hours puttering in his workshop, doing things like building a locomotive steam engine from scratch, doing a little saw sharpening, and lots of woodworking. In December, 2000, the house got to be a little too much for him, and granddad moved into Rosewood Lodge, where he lived his last few years. He always enjoyed seeing family and friends, and looked forward either staying in or getting out for a car-ride, going for ice-cream, coffee, lunch or a dinner out. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel on Main St. in Stonewall. Cremation has taken place. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends so desire, a memorial donation can be made to your favourite charity. Im going to miss you Granddad. With love, your little sweetheart. MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall in care of arrangements. 467-2525.
