FRANCIS OSBORNE NORMAN "OZ" 1913-2004 Oz passed away peacefully at Oakview Place December 3, 2004 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1994 and previously by his parents, Frank and Alice Norman. He is survived by his sister Genevieve Howe and by nephews, Norman and Gordon (Marlene) and their children, Gena and Nelson. Oz was born and educated in Winnipeg. Attended Wesley College and obtained his teaching certificate at the Winnipeg Normal School. He received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba. He served in the Air Force as a Pilot Officer. Was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and served as an Educational Officer in the Air Force Reserves for 12 years. Oz taught in rural Manitoba in Greenridge and Birds Hill, then in Winnipeg Schools. He joined the staff of Daniel Macintyre Collegiate, where he taught for 30 years, and retired in August 1979. Oz was life member of the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba and a long-time member of the YMCA. He spent many enjoyable years at Winnipeg Beach and at his cottage at West Hawk Lake. In his early years, he was very active in competitive swimming and enjoyed sports of all kinds. Oz played the piano and organ and enjoyed long walks with his two dogs. Memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway on Wednesday, December 8 at 1:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Oakview Place for their kind and compassionate care.
