JOHN SAWCHUK Suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, January 17, 2005, John Sawchuk, beloved husband of Pauline Sawchuk, passed away at the age of 87 years at the Seven Oaks General Hospital as a result of a brain hemorrhage. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Penny (Bill) Waywood, Tamara (Owen) Sweeney, and son John (Sigrid), all of Winnipeg; and grandchildren, Susan Waywood, Stephanie, Michael, and Jessica Sawchuk, and Debbie and Jonathan Borger. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister Nellie (Frank) Reiss of Vancouver, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Ann; sister Olga Sawchuk; daughter Paulette Borger and grandson Jeffrey Waywood. Dad lived a full and active life right up to his last days. He worked at Great West Metal Products Ltd. for 43 years, retiring in 1982. With his family he built a summer cottage at Wanasing Beach, where he enjoyed many summers with them. He was a member of Blessed Virgin Mary Church and volunteered at their bingos, and for the past several years he served on the executive of the New Horizon Ukrainian Senior Citizens Club and was a member of the North Centennial Senior's Association. Besides being a whiz at crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes, Dad enjoyed playing darts on Wednesday afternoons with former teammates from his senior slo-pitch softball team. Above all else, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and we will all miss him dearly. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
