JOHN POLLOCK Peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital in Toronto, John Pollock passed away January 20, 2005 on his 85th birthday. John was born in Portage La Prairie, MB, the only son of Mr Mrs. D.H. Pollock. John enlisted in 1939 in Portage La Prairie but later transferred to D Coy of the Winnipeg Grenadiers and went to Jamaica for garrison duty. He was a member of C' Force that served in Hong Kong and consequently was a Prisoner of War for 46 months in Sendai No. 2, Japan. While John was a Prisoner of War and unknown to him, his father passed away. So his mother and two sisters were very pleased to have him return and once again have a man in the house. When John came out of the service he worked at the CNR until his retirement. John loved the ladies, he loved travelling and he loved dancing. It was at a Valentines dance in 1975 that he met his best friend and travelling companion, Ethel Cake. They had 29 special years together, travelling around the world. They loved to attend the Conventions and Reunions for the Hong Kong Veterans' Association and John was very proud of his longtime membership in the Association. John was predeceased by his parents, and both sisters. It was his wish that no memorial service occur but his ashes will be interned in the family plot at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB. Grateful thanks are given to his caregiver, Erleen Constance, for all her caring and thoughtfulness. Cremation has taken place, and an interment will be held at a later date. You are finally home, John. FEPOW Prayer And we that are left grow old with the years, Remembering the heartache, the pain and the tears, Hoping and praying that never again Man will sink to such sorrow and shame; the price that was paid we will always remember Every day - every month - not just in November. We will remember them. Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200
