ASTA INGEBORG (EMMA) THORVALDSON (nee ASMUNDSON), aged 93, on Monday, January 31, 2005, passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre with family at her side. She was the daughter of the late Lillian and Jon Asmundson, and beloved wife for 57 years of the late Albert Thorvaldson. She was predeceased by her husband Albert in 1992; her daughter Deidre in 1995; and her six sisters, Margaret, Anna, Aldis, Winnie, Jonina and Villa; and three brothers, Steini, Carl and Freeman. Loving mother of three sons, Thor (Anna) of Kenora, ON, Magnus Mike (Wanda) of East Selkirk, Larry (Brenda) of Pine Falls; and her daughter Elaine (David) Swainson of Marmora, ON. Beloved Grandma to 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Emma was born in Winnipeg, MB, on July 17, 1911, and was the daughter of early Manitoba homesteaders in Caliento. As a resident of Piney, MB, for 61 years, she was dedicated to her community. She was at times a director and secretary of the Hall Committee for about 31 years, a treasurer of the Piney Community Church, member of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary Branch 176, longtime member and past president of the Over 40 Club, worked on the History of Piney book, helped organize the meals program in town (Merry Eatery), was a 4-H Leader and W.I. member. She left the Piney homestead in 1995 to take up residence in Winnipeg. But she will be most remembered for her generous heart and love for family, especially children. She always had room for one more and a prayer for those in need. Her patience and loving nature will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Piney Community Church with viewing one hour prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lillian and Roy Anderson of Piney for their attention and care to Emma and Albert over the years.
