Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLAYTON MORTIMER THOMPSON July 12, 1915 - February 3, 2005 On Thursday, February 3, 2005, Clayton Thompson, of Russell, MB, passed away at the age of 89 in the loving arms of his family. Clayton is survived by his wife Paula (Polly); and three sons, Clayton, Robert (Russell) and Jim (Winnipeg); his brother Willard (Surrey); sister Thelma (Otto) Pauls (Vancouver); and brother-in-law Don Mowbray (Wawota); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Alice; brother Jim; sister Irene Mowbray; one brother in infancy; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Margaret. Clayton was born at Glenavon, SK on July 12, 1915. He was raised on the family farm and attended Belfast School. He worked in both rural areas and Regina, from farming to hauling grain and delivering cream and coal. Clayton served his country in the Second World War, enlisting and becoming a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he married Paula Eleen and together they raised three sons. Clayton and Paula farmed at Glenavon, Kelso and Saltcoats, SK and since 1964 near Russell. Clayton loved farming and working hard, especially working with his sons raising cattle and growing grain. He always found magic in the sight of waves of wheat rustling in the wind. Dad could make an axe sing with either hand. Clayton loved gardening, reading books, crocuses in the spring, watching the stars at night, and the warmth of a wood fire. Throughout his life Clayton supported the CCF-NDP, the co-op movement, the Wheat Pool, and the Canadian Wheat Board - anything that benefited the common people. He was raised in a time when these were important steps and was proud to say his first vote was for Tommy Douglas. At Clayton's request cremation has taken place with interment in the Moffat Cemetery, Moffat, SK at a later date. If friends so desire contributions of remembrance can be made to a charity of their choice. Keep fighting the good fight Dad; we love you and will always remember you. O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at last, Amen. Arrangements in care of Tubman's Cremation Funeral Services, Wolseley, SK (1-800-667-8962).
