JOAO M. CALISTO 1948 - 2005 Peacefully on March 30, 2005 Joao passed away with his family at his side at Riverview Health Centre at 56 years of age. Joao will sadly be missed by his wife of 31 years Delia; his children, Susie Hepner (Phil), Paulo (April), Sandy; his grandsons, Ethan and Kyle. Joao has also left to cherish his memory sisters, Maria de Luz Furtado (Jose), Maria Teresa de Sousa Calisto (in Portugal); nieces, Ana Pavao (Jose), Grimalda Ferreira (Joao), Filomena Couto (Emanuel) and all their children, Allan, Andy, Adam Pavao; Jonathan, Jessica, Jordan Ferreira; Devon and Kaitlyn Couto; godchildren, Catarina, Andrew and Jennifer Raposo. Joao was born on April 12, 1948 to Joao and Maria Teresa de Sousa Calisto in Sao Miguel, Portugal. He met Delia at the age of 20 shortly before serving in the Portugal army for 3 years. Joao immigrated to Canada to start a new life in Winnipeg, MB at 25 years of age. He married the love of his live at 26 and started their family. Joao was a very well liked man, generous and hardworking. He enjoyed the outdoors, his best times were spent at St. Malo beach with the whole family or fishing at Lockport with a couple of relatives. He was a jack of all trades Electrician, Plumber, Mechanic but his true passion was carpentry. Joao made his living in the Furniture industry delivering, repairing and refinishing. You showed us strength and determination on your last days with us. You'll be deeply missed by us all but never forgotten. We love you!!!!! The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Riverview Health Centre 3 East wing for the compassionate care given to Joao and their kindness and thoughtful gestures to the entire family. Prayers will be held on Friday, April 1 at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish 181 Austin St. N. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m. also at the church with Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros as celebrant. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
