SHIRLEY MIRIAM ONYSKE (nee ADAMS) Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, Shirley passed away on April 3, 2005 at the age of 72, at the Selkirk General Hospital. Shirley was born in Selkirk, MB, on October 9, 1932, the daughter of Percy and Miriam Adams. In 1961 she married Tony Onyske and settled in Selkirk, where she resided until 2001. She then moved to the Selkirk Lions Centre where she made many new friends, her closest being Peggy Massey. For years Mom worked as a dietician at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre and then the Selkirk Linen until her retirement. She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband Tony; also her brothers William and Clarence Adams; sisters, Doreen Clouston, May Hygaard and Eleanor Leclair; stepbrother Norman Beaver and stepsisters Doreen Beaver and Barbara Boyd. Shirley leaves to mourn her daughter Wendy Gerbrandt and son Charlie Onyske (Cheryl), all of Selkirk. The light of her life and pride of her existence, her grandchildren Jamie Gerbrandt and Emma Onyske, plus her extended grandchildren Tyler and Scott Fiebelkorn of Beausejour; stepsister Dilly (Mary) Setter and husband Fred of Selkirk; stepbrother Evan Beaver (Joan) of England; sisters-in-law, Shirley Adams, Dulcie Onyske and Ann Wozney, all of Selkirk; brothers-in-law, Frank Onyske of Winnipeg and Joe (Ann) Onyske of Kaslo, BC, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and aunties. A viewing will take place on Wednesday, April 6 from 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. also in the chapel with cremation to follow. Honorary pallbearers are Peggy Massey, Dilly Setter, Kak Setter, Vi Johnson, Tom and Alicia Fiebelkorn. Shirley's family would like to extend a gracious thank you to Dr. Habtu Demsas and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for the wonderful care and love they showed towards Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit Program, Southeast Interlake Division, Selkirk and District General Hospital, 100 Easton Dr., Box 5000, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
