Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE MADELINE PRUDEN (MA-ZAN) Peacefully with her family at her side, Elsie Madeline Pruden, of Poplar River First Nation, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the age of 55 years. Elsie was born at Poplar River on May 22, 1949 and had resided there her entire life. She enjoyed playing the guitar, singing gospel songs at home, writing and singing in the Cree language. Her favourite song was God Shall Wipe Away All Tears From Our Eyes . Elsie was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She loved to go boat riding on the lake. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory husband Alex; mother Madeline Berens; stepson John Chartrand (Rhonda); three brothers, Roderick Berens Jr. (Nora), John Berens (Kathy) and Arthur Berens (Barbara); four sisters-in-law, Sarah Beardy, Clara Pruden, Nancy Winters (Alvin) and Maggie Olander (Wayne); brother-in-law William Yarenko; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and two uncles, Daniel Bruce (Annie) and Joe Berens Sr. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father Roderick Berens (September 7, 1994); two brothers, Marcel Berens (January 1982) and Carl Keith Berens; mother-in-law Elizabeth Sutherland (March 17, 2003) and nephew Emile Scott Berens (November 2004). Prayers were said on Wednesday, April 13 from 7:30 p.m. to 12 midnight at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave. at Parr Street, Winnipeg, with Pastor Raymond McLean officiating. Wake services will be held on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15 at Poplar River. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar River Pentecostal Church with Pastor Alex Hudson officiating. Interment to follow at Poplar River Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Chartrand, John Berens, Arthur Berens Sr., William Yarenko, Ernest Berens and Perro Bruce. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Health Sciences Centre MICU 7th floor ward and IICU 5th floor ward for their care and support given to Elsie.
