JOSEPHINE PYZIAK Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, Josephine Pyziak passed away at the Tache Centre at the age of 99. Josephine will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her sisters, Anne Burns and Helen Milko; sisters-in-law, Adele Pyziak and Josephine Pyziak; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Josephine was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Tekla Pyziak; brother Alexander in infancy; sisters, Joanne, Katie, Mary, Frances; and brothers, Charles, Kazmir and Stanley. Josephine was born March 15, 1906 in Newark, New Jersey the second oldest in a family of ten, and immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of two to the Interlake community of Zbaraz. A lover of music, Josephine learned to play the violin from a very young age. At the age of 15, Josephine decided to brave the outside world and left home for Winnipeg. Working first at the downtown Y.W.C.A. and Delmar Restaurant, and later in the rectory at St. Mary's Cathedrale and finally Balmoral Hall school, Josephine lived in the big city 51 years before retiring to her trailer in Zbaraz. Declining health returned her to the city where she resided at Columbus Manor, and finally at Tache Centre. Those who knew Aunty Jo share fond memories of mushroom and berry picking, card playing, gardening, her contagious sense of humour (YEAH!) and her undying love of hockey. Josephine was an avid hockey fan and supporter of both the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose. A talented knitter, she donated her works to many charities. Aunty Jo loved animals, supporting the Humane Society as well as doing her part to keep all the local birds well fed. Prayers will be said on Friday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Arborg. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Fisher Branch with Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Zbaraz. Pallbearers will be Joe Grzenda, Ed Podaima, Brian Malkowich, Tom Pyziak, George Rohulych and Jerry Akerstream. The family would like to thank the staff at the Tache Centre for their warm and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision Canada, Unit 34 - 62 Scurfield Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. YEAH! Farewell old friends, and God bless you! Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
