RUTH NEWTON Ruth Newton, aged 79 passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on Saturday, April 16, 2005, after a brief battle with cancer. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Doug Sr.; daughter Judy and brothers Bill and Les. She will be fondly remembered by her son Doug; grandchildren, Glennis and great-grandson Keir; Derek (Mullein) and Tristan (Shara); their mother Chris Kroeze and Ruth's sister-in-law Joan Newton. Also surviving are her brothers, Bob, Jim, Dave (Louise), Doug (Jan) and Brian (Joan) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was an avid sports participant and fan all her life, she especially enjoyed playing baseball and bowling and watching football. She and dad had season tickets for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for many years. Ruth and family spent many enjoyable summers at their cottage at Victoria Beach. Ruth was also a choir member in several church congregations and loved to sing her hymns. We will miss her smile, her sharp sense of humour and her love of telling jokes. Turkey dinners will never be the same. The family would like to thank Al and Shirl, Guy and Doreen, Bob, Joan and Anita for their unwavering support during mom's illness. We would also like to thank Dr. K. Jones and staff at Cancer Care and the Riverview Health Centre for their care of gramma. Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 21, at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. with a reception following at the church. A private family interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 would be appreciated.
