BERYL JOYCE THOMPSON Peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2005, Beryl Thompson passed away at Tuxedo Villa, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ross (Marshall R.) in 1990. She is survived by daughter Marilyn of Winnipeg; son Brian; daughter-in-law Lorri; granddaughter Shannon; and grandson Colin of Scarborough and Toronto, ON. Beryl was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, on August 23, 1913. She arrived in Canada in 1937 and married Ross in April 1938. She was employed with the Winnipeg School Division as head secretary of Sargent Park School from 1954 until she retired in 1976. Beryl lived a healthy and active life until 2002 when she suffered the first of a series of strokes. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, needlework, the cottage at Lester Beach, walking and crossword puzzles. She was a supporter of the arts and enjoyed attending performances of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Stratford Festival. For many years she was a fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Fred Douglas Heritage House where Beryl resided for two years. She particularly enjoyed the food and her regular dining companions while there. Thank you to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg who provided interim care for a short time. A special thanks is extended to the staff of Tuxedo Villa where Beryl spent her final year. The compassionate care and respect shown by the nurses and health care aides on Station 3 is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beryl's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Beryl's wishes, there will be no formal service. Interment in Brookside Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, 783-7211.
