EDWARD MARTIN POLOSKI 1936 - 2005 At home, on May 17, after a short, fierce battle with cancer, Ed was released from his pain, his family at his side. He was predeceased by his parents Anne and Mike; sister Nellie; brother Jim, brother and best friend Andy; and infant grandson Dustin. Left to mourn are his wife of 45 years, Jackie; his children, Robin (Ron) Groot, Todd (Jan), Tracey (Kevin) Kursen, Marty (Michelle); brother Frank (Verna) Bannish; sister Sophie Grochowich; and sister-in-law Florence Poloski. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott and Matthew Groot, Michael and Logan Poloski, Charmaine Crewson, Trent and Ben Kursen, Tyler and Cody Poloski; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ed grew up in Cloverdale and Selkirk. He moved to Winnipeg Beach in 1970 where he was employed at the Seagram Company in Gimli for 39 years, retiring six years ago. He and Jackie enjoyed being winter Texans for the last 10 years where he loved to beachcomb and fish for the BIG ONE. Ed was a kind, gentle man who was always ready to help his family, neighbours and friends with anything. His grandkids thought he could make, build or fix anything. He could always be found puttering in his yard or garage. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, especially with Andy, and the past few years he loved golf. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ed's life will take place on Friday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Selkirk United Church on McLean Avenue, Selkirk. Interment will be held at a later date at the Cloverdale Cemetery where Ed will be laid to rest beside his beloved brother Andy. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Zinnick, Ed Wozney, Ken MacMillan, Doug Thordarson and Mike Ward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Gimli Community Health Centre, CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. S.V. Patel, the nurses and staff at the Gimli Hospital and the homecare workers who took such good care of Ed and all of us during the last two and one-half months. You're finally, thankfully Free of pain. Our aching loss Is Heaven's gain. Although it's so hard To let you go, You're finally at peace And free of woe. You struggled so hard To remain with us But that last day We said good-bye. Go hunt with your brother, It's alright to die. It will be hard but we'll be okay And we'll miss you, sweetheart, Every day Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
