RICHARD WILLIAM THOMAS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard William Thomas at the Victoria General Hospital on Thursday, July 7, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69 years. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 37 years, Gladys; his sons, Erik (Bobbi) and Brent; his daughter Jennifer (Lawrence) Klassen; his grandsons, Andrew and Tyler; and his granddaughter Ryan, born on the same day of his passing, July 7, 2005. Richard was born on January 7, 1936, in Wilmington, Delaware. He met and married Gladys in San Bernadino, CA, in 1968 and they moved to Winnipeg in 1971. Richard retired from the Emergency Services Department, Works and Operations, City of Winnipeg in 1995 after 24 years of service. He took great pride in his grandsons with whom he enjoyed playing video games. He had a great interest in Nascar racing, and enjoyed the Sunday morning episodes of Coronation Street. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and doctors at the Victoria General Hospital for their compassion and care, especially Dr. Hayward. According to Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date.
