MEYER GRYSMAN (ZAIDY MEYER) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Meyer Grysman (Zaidy Meyer) on September 7, 2005. Meyer was born in Kielce, Poland on October 26, 1911. He was one of eight brothers and sisters; only he and his brother Moishe survived the Holocaust. Before the war he and his brother Moishe had supported their family due to the early death of their father. Meyer was brought to Canada in 1949 and was sent to Winnipeg as part of a group of tailors. There he met and married his dear wife Yetta Kranis. He was given a job by Max Shore and in a relatively short period of time thereafter, he established Service Sportswear Manufacturing Co. Ltd. After separating from two partners he became sole owner of the business which he maintained until the illness of his beloved wife Yetta in 1980. Meyer's life revolved around his business, his family and his community. He was generous and always willing to help others in need. His good nature and friendly manner gained him friends in the banks he dealt with, in the stock exchange and in the Jewish community at large. He was a staunch Zionist and a great supporter of Jewish and Israeli causes. It was inspiring to see how he was able to maintain such warmth and kindness after undergoing the horrors of the Holocaust. In his later years his life revolved around his children and grandchildren and he took great pride in their accomplishments and in the time they spent together. He was an integral part of synagogue life both in Winnipeg and Toronto. A defining quality of Meyer's life was his love for children. He was affectionately referred to as Zaidy Meyer not only by his grandchildren but by one and all. He will be sadly missed by his son Charles; daughter-in-law Lori; grandchildren, Atarah and Ilan, Azi, Yoni and Noam; by his dear friends and mechutanim, Bernie and Evelyn Goldstein; by his dear brother and sister-in-law, Moishe and Regina of New York and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a privilege and an honour to have him in our lives. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 9. The family wishes to extend our deep gratitude to Meyer's caregivers, Zoya, Nina and Peter. We are also most grateful for the wonderful care that Meyer received from the nurses and staff on the second floor of the Sharon Home. Donations in Meyer's memory may be made to the Shaarei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Meyer Grysman Trust, the Zichron Yisruel Synagogue of Toronto or a charity of your choice.
