RICHARD WESLEY (WES) MCAMMOND It is with sadness that the family of Wes McAmmond announces his death on the morning of September 14, 2005. Born December 9, 1910 in Winnipeg, Wes touched many lives during his 94 years. With his quick smile, friendly demeanour and ability to find joy in life's many small pleasures, Wes was never short of friends who cared about him, or family who loved him. Wes had many roles during his life. As a student, Wes first received his Teaching Certificate from the Winnipeg Normal School, later receiving his Masters in Education from the University of British Columbia. In work, he was first a teacher, then Principal at West Park School in Neepawa, eventually moving on to teach at the Manitoba Teachers College and the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba. In the community, Wes was always fully engaged. As organist at Neepawa and later Harrow United Churches, Wes was able to share the great joy he received from music. As past President of the Neepawa Lions Club and an active member of the Shriners, Wes was able to contribute back to the community in many other ways. As a hockey and baseball coach, he shared his enthusiasm for sports with the youth of Neepawa. In retirement, he remained active, serving for over ten years as a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels and as President of the Mentors Club. Besides his music, Wes loved to travel. Spain, France, Portugal, England, the Caribbean, and other destinations always yielded many stories that Wes would share with us all. Wes loved the simple things in life; a wildflower growing at the edge of a road, a bottle of good Scotch shared among friends, or a drive in the country on a gentle autumn afternoon. But most of all, Wes took his greatest joy from watching the accomplishments of others; past students, friends and family. Wes was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine McAmmond; and by eight brothers and sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Our family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Lions Manor Personal Care Home for the care Wes received during the last year of his life; to the staff from D4 at Health Sciences for their compassion and care during his final week; and to the staff at Home Care, particularly Dennis, for their assistance and care in Wes' final years. A memorial service of Wes' life will be held Monday, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey. In lieu of flowers, for those who so choose, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. To have lived well, laughed often and loved much; to have looked for the best in others, and to have given the best of yourself. That is achievement. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 783-7211
