EILEEN LAURA FRAYNE (WEAVER) 1929 - 2005 Eileen Frayne, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on October 3, 2005 after several years of ill health. Eileen was born in Toronto in 1929 and moved as a little girl to Bristol, England after the heartbreaking death of her father. She won a scholarship to historic Red Maids School where she excelled at field hockey and cricket but left before graduating to help support her family. She married the love of her life, Stuart, at the age of 19 and moved to Canada with him and their two older children, Peter and Heather, in 1957. A third child, Stephen, was born soon afterwards. Stuart's career as a clergyman and professor took the family to Winnipeg, Vancouver, Burlington, Ontario and Scarborough. Eileen and Stuart retired to Alberta and then Winnipeg. Eileen returned to school and graduated from grade 13 in 1970. She qualified as a laboratory technologist and worked at Chedoke General Hospital in Hamilton and Scarborough General Hospital. She graduated with her B.A. in 1991 and her M.A. (cum laude) in 1995, both from McMaster University. Above all, Eileen was a passionately committed wife and mother, unfailingly hopeful, helpful, sympathetic and conscientious. She struggled with pain and illness for much of her adult life but met this with grace and courage much larger than her tiny frame. Her strong Christian faith matured throughout her life. Her kind example touched everyone she knew. Eileen leaves to grieve and to cherish her memory her devoted husband Stuart; her children, Peter (Pat), Heather (Daryl), Steve (Cindy); and her grandchildren, Heather, Michael, Tim, Jesse, Chris and Amanda. All of us express heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their extraordinary care and professionalism during the past year. We thank, as well, the many other caregivers and friends who have supported her and us over several difficult years. We thank God for the gift of a lovely and extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so are invited to make a donation in Eileen's name to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, the Arthritis Society or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. A memorial service is planned for 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6 at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
