EUNICE FLORENCE DYCK (nee FLEMINGTON) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, October 13, 2005, Eunice passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 80 years. Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband Lawrence; daughter Janice of Woodlands, MB; granddaughters, Abby of Winnipeg and Jamie of Woodlands; brothers, Earl of Winnipeg, Len (Mabel) of Wawota, SK and Garnet (Marion) Flemington of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Marlene Szidonya of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law, Ralph Dyck of Vancouver, BC, Don Dyck (Norma) and Frank Dyck (Claudia) of Calgary, AB. Eunice was predeceased by her son Steven; her parents, Bert and Emily Flemington and several brothers and sisters. She was born in Melita, MB on August 7, 1925 where her parents farmed. Eunice was one of a large family and she learned early in life the sewing skills for making some of her clothing as those were hard times and money and help was seldom available. At an early age she moved with her family to Maryfield, SK where her parents resumed farming. She attended high school in Maryfield, completing Grade 12. In the mid 1940's she and two sisters moved to Winnipeg in search of employment. As she had previous seamstress skills she soon found gainful employment in the garment industry. Eunice was courted by Lawrence and they were married on November 15, 1947. They have shared their love for almost 58 years. Eunice had a creative mind for her skill and adeptness in fashioning garments, alterations and household fabrics. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making stuffed toys for children. Eunice gave freely to those less fortunate. She had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humour and was endeared by many friends. Her recreational enjoyments included gardening, bowling and Dart League at 17 Wing WO's and Sgt's Mess. She enjoyed a good social life and loved to dance. Having accompanied her serviceman husband to various locations in Canada and a stint in Germany, she was elated upon her husband's retirement in 1973 to at last have a permanent home which she greatly improved as the years went by. Also, opportunity for vacation travel across Canada, the United States and Mexico. A celebration of Eunice's life will take place at a later date. The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the nurses of home Palliative Care and to the doctors and nurses at Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, for their compassionate and loving care during the last months of her life. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Lawrence and family I am sorry to hear of Eunice's passing. I knew she had been ill for some time. It was good that you were able to go the reunion in Plum Coulee and be with family who care. It is very difficult to lose the person that your world revolved around. You never get over the loss of your spouse but you WILL get through it. Loving thoughts are with you. Shirley (Susan's daughter) - Posted by: Shirley Clubine (Family) on: Oct 19, 2005
