Born: Jul 29, 1911
Date of Passing: Nov 05, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHALLDOR PETERSON (HUDDI) It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing at home of our dear father and grandfather, Halldor Peterson on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the age of 94. Halldor will be missed by his children; Jeannette (Bill McNamee), Garry (Isabel), and Mary (Rex Woods); by his grandchildren: Patrick (Jeannie and great-grandkids, Kirsten, Brooke and Thor), Todd, Alexander, Garrick, and Charles; as well as by many nieces and nephews, friends and by Isabel's family who regard him as part of their family. The youngest son of Petur Gudmundsson and Sigridur Thorsteinsdottir, Halldor was born July 29, 1911 and lived his whole life in Gimli. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Elizabeth (1968) and his siblings Oli, Mundi, Sam, Loa, Mickey and Victoria. He was a proud Icelander who fished with his brothers on Lake Winnipeg for more than 50 years. Following his retirement from fishing Halldor pursued a lifelong passion, that of oil painting. Many of his pictures, including local landscapes, grace the walls of family and friends. Another passion of Halldor's was traveling and sightseeing. He particularly enjoyed visiting with his children. He made several visits out west to Alberta to see Jeannette. Mary reports that he wanted to go on a new adventure everyday during his yearly treks down to the states, gathering as much information as he could about each area and finding new subject matter for his paintings. He watched with pride his children and grandchildren as their lives progressed. In 2000, Halldor moved from his 5th Avenue home to live with Garry and Isabel in Loni Beach, where he met many individuals on his daily walks. There he was also able to be an influence on his great-grandchildren, in whom he took much joy. Halldor shared many happy moments at Central Bakery with his buddies who met each morning for coffee and some conversation. In 2004 he could no longer manage the trips into town, but his friend Wilf would occasionally visit and bring him a cup of that coffee, a doughnut and the latest news. Something Huddi really enjoyed. The family would like to thank Gimli Home Care and the workers who supported Halldor and allowed him to stay at home as he wished. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service in celebration of dad's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Gimli Lutheran Church on 3rd Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Evergreen Basic Needs or to a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

Huddi was my great uncle and I remember visiting him on 5th Ave. We talked for a long time and then he gifted me a painting he called "the sleeping giant". This was of fame from Thunder Bay. I remember when Halldor, Jim and Sam used to sit together in their old age. As a kid I was filled with wonder, imagining the adventures they had while being tossed on the waves of lake Winnipeg. I would be very happy to hear from his family, to make stronger bonds with our family. js.peterson@hotmail.com. I am Bob Peterson's son. - Posted by: Jonas Peterson (Great nephew) on: Dec 19, 2021
