REGINALD NELSON Reginald (Reg) Nelson Reg passed away with peace and dignity on November 24, 2005 at Riverview Palliative Care Centre, a few weeks shy of his 94th birthday. His life was simple and yet full of enormous variety and challenges, all of which he embraced with creativity, a tireless work ethic, and a sense of humour that always had people laughing, even in his final days. Dad was born on December 18, 1911 near Boissevain, MB, but soon moved to Maple Creek, SK where he survived one winter in a prairie sod house. In 1942, he met and married Clara Johnston. In 1957 they purchased a bicycle shop, Nelson Bicycles in St. Boniface, which they operated for 15 years. After he retired from the bike shop, he continued working well into his 70's at Western Elevators. He remained engaged in the world after his wife's death in 1989, forming meaningful friendships, and taking up old and new activities, including square dancing, golf and bridge. Dad enjoyed reading and loved learning. He was an early user of personal computers and continued to upgrade his computer skills with each new computer until the day he was admitted to Riverview. His father, mother, and sisters Dorothy and Peggy predeceased him. He is survived by his son Gilbert (Diane), grandchildren Jeremy, Aaron and Rebecca, who will always remember him lovingly as their Gramps, son Paul and brother Ken (Ros), nieces, nephews and special friend Audrey. The family would like to express a special thanks to the Palliative Care Staff while he was at home and in the hospital. At his request there will be no service. A reception will be held in his honour at Lions Place, 610 Portage Ave., 2nd floor on Thursday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Reg, to the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg R3L 2P4 or a charity of your choice.
