LUISE (BETTIE) GOOSSEN Luise (Bettie) Goossen of Winnipeg, formerly of Winkler, died February 2, 2006 at the age of 78 years, at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg. Bettie was born on March 3, 1927 in Gretna, MB to Reverend Bernhard B. and Elizabeth Fast. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at the age of 13 and was later baptized on the confession of her faith. After graduation from the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, she attended Success Business College and later graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing, receiving an honorary medal for Bedside Nursing. She then worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses in Winnipeg. She met the love of her life, John H. Goossen at the Mennonite Brethren Bible College and on September 29, 1951 they were married. She was a major source of inspiration to her husband and their four sons. As a city girl turned country girl, she worked faithfully with her husband and sons on the family farm near Manitou. Her labours of love included supporting her husband's teaching career at the former Winkler Bible Institute where he taught for 30 years. Bettie was a loving and supportive wife, mother and Oma. She was active in church work and hospital boards. She sat on the Golden West Broadcasting Board and made a special trip to teach at the Lithuania Christian College. She was courageous and kind with an incredible ability to encourage people of all walks of life. She was a prayer warrior. She loved baking, gardening and keeping up with current events. Bettie was predeceased by her husband Rev. John H. Goossen. She is mourned by her four sons, Paul (Valorie), Randy (Carol), Marv (Cheryl), Jon (Fran) and their spouses; ten grandchildren; one sister Nellie; three brothers, Bernie, Neil, Bill and their respective families. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 6 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St., Winnipeg. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the McIvor Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Interment will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the Winkler Cemetery in Winkler followed by a reception at 10:30 a.m. in the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Winkler. The family would like to especially thank the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital for their care of Mom. Special thanks also to the Concordia Hospital Oncology Clinic staff including Carol, Valerie, Nancy, Cathy and Drs. Pat Harris and Cindy Pachal. The incredible love and support which mom received by her home church congregation at McIvor MB Church is much appreciated.
