SAVERIO MACCHIA It is with much sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of their dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Saverio Macchia on February 4, 2006 with his family all gathered by his side. Saverio was born on July 4, 1931 in Filiano, Italy. He will be lovingly remembered forever by his beloved wife of 49 years Carmela, son Gennaro wife Josie and grandchildren Shawn and Marissa, son Angelo wife Tracy and grandchildren Elorie and Dylan. Saverio was predeceased by father Gennaro, mother Maria Antonia, and brother Pasquale. He will always be lovingly remembered by his sister Carmela, brother Giuseppe (Maria), and sister-in-law Gerrardina all from Italy, brothers Rocco (Giuseppina), Salvatore (Susan) of Winnipeg. He also leaves to mourn his passing many nieces and nephews both here and in Italy. Saverio was a kind simple man who worked as a mason for many years. Due to illness he was forced to retire at the age of 58. Most recently Carmela and Saverio moved into the Villa Cabrini, where they formed many friendships. Saverio loved his family very much and he was always there for them. He spent many happy holidays with them, which allowed him to spend quality time with his grandchildren who were the joy of his life. The family wishes to thank all who came to visit Saverio. They especially wish to thank the Nurses of B5, at the St. Boniface Hospital. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8 at 10:00 a.m. also in Holy Rosary Church with Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Saverio's memory may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg MB, R3E 0V9. True greatness does not come to those who strive for worldly fame. It lies instead with those who choose to serve in Jesus' name Riposa in Pace caro Saverio.
