IRENA LUBOW SHULAKEWYCH On Monday, February 6, 2006 our wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Sister passed away at 12:15 p.m. at the Holy Family Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Severyn and Olena (Yavorsky) Snihurowycz, two brothers Wolodymyr and Myroslaw and her wonderful husband Stefan Wolodymyr Shulakewych. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons Bohdan I. (Lydia), Borys L. (Oksana) and Yarema W. (Slavka); grandchildren Bohdan A. Jr. (Sonia); Dr. Markian Shulakewych, Dr. Zdan Shulakewych (Kelly), Ilarion, Lada and Oresta; brother Dr. Taras G. Snihurowycz (Emilia); sister Natalia Radlowska and their families; as well as extended families in Canada, USA, Poland, Austria and Switzerland. Irena Lubow was born in Stanyslaviv (Ivano Frankivske) on June 8, 1911. She graduated from High School then married Stefan in February 1935. Her life's journey took the young family to Molodechno in Bielorus, then to Stanyslaviv and later to Sianok, Trenchin (Slovakia), Vienna (Austria), Breitenbach and Landeck (Austria). In 1949 the family moved to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. Here she worked initially in the garment industry and later as a dental assistant, in the Faculty of Dentistry, at the University of Manitoba. Once her sons left home, Irena Lubow started pottery courses through the YMCA, later graduated to her own expressions in clay. She produced wonderful objet d'art using clay as a medium. ie. crucifixes, icons, figurines, pottery portraits and busts of her sons. Her scope of work was virtually unlimited, wherein she combined the dexterity of fingers, a keen eye for observation, an impeccable sense of style with a very discriminite sense of colour. She held major exhibits in Winnipeg and Edmonton, Alberta, while photos of her work were adopted for publication by various charitable societies. She was a true artist of the soul. Her avocation included fashion design, gourmet food preparation and charity work. Her full time commitment was to her husband, parents, children, grandchildren, the Church and everything beautiful expressed through art. Prayers will be sung 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 13 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratititude to the staff on St. Paul's Ward, Sisters and Management of the Holy Family Nursing Home - their loving care was exemplary; to her physician, Dr. Terry Babick for his dedication and wonderful bedside service; and to the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok, who was her trusted spiritual beacon and administered Last Rites. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Irena Lubow's memory to the Children of Chernobyl Foundation, 2118-A Bloor St. W. Ste. 200, Toronto, ON, M6S 1M8. May she find solace and tranquility in the arms of her Creator and the Holy Mother. KHRYSTOS RODYVSIA KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
