HARRY KOHM It is with great sorrow that we announce Harry Kohm, aged 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2006. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lucy; children, Jennifer, Megan, Nada, Lynne (Michael), Stuart; and granddaughter Ashley; brothers, Barney (Margaret) and Eli (Jean) and nieces and nephews. Born in Saskatchewan, Harry moved to Winnipeg in his teen years, after his father Samuel passed away. He helped support his mother Esther and two younger brothers, by working in a glove factory and a drug store. He enjoyed the many adventures that Winnipeg's north end had to offer! He was a weight lifter, boxer, chess champ, linguist and musician. Harry proudly served in the Canadian Army with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders during the Second World War, for 55 months. He was stationed overseas and fought on the front lines, played in the band and was in the intelligence section (due to his linguistic abilities). He was responsible for the capture of a number of enemy forces in Germany-ultimately protecting his unit. After the war, Harry returned to Winnipeg where he received the gold medal in Chemistry and graduated from Law, he practiced for over 35 years. Upon his retirement, he continued to follow his interests in wartime history, current political events and the study of languages. He was a member of the General Moshe Dayan Post Jewish War Veterans of Canada. Harry was a Happy Go Lucky Guy who found pleasure and contentment in simple things. He had many special friendships. He was a good man with a warm heart, a real mensch. Harry was a proud man. He had a great sense of humour, playfulness and zest for life. He cherished the time with his beloved and devoted wife Lucy and his family. Harry lovingly cared for and was devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will burn brightly. We would like to thank all of the home care workers, Maureen Waters (DVA), Timmalee Thompson, Drs. Biala and Kaufman, staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and staff at MICU and GD4 (Health Sciences Centre), particularly doctors, Wiebe, Lam, Gupta and Salman for the special care and attention given to Harry. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 12, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca.
