IDALINA MARIA ORFAO Peacefully on March 17, 2006 with her family at her side, Idalina Orfao passed away at the age of 53 years. She is survived by her mother Gertrudes da Conçeicao; her two sisters, Relinda Gonçalves, Maria Dias; nephews, Baldwin Gonçalves, Manuel Dias, Antonio Dias (Tammy); nieces, Judite McLeod (James), Belina, Lisette, four grand nephews and nieces. Idalina was a godmother to many children. She will also be remembered by many cousins and friends in Canada, Portugal and France. She was predeceased by her father Manuel Joaquim Orfao, brothers-in-law, Françisco Gonçalves and Antonio Dias. Idalina immigrated to Canada in 1968 to join her family in Winnipeg. Idalina worked as a sewing machine operator, specializing in leather prototyping with new designs. She enjoyed making mini-prototypes for her nieces and nephews to play with. Idalina quickly learned to speak English in her new Country and became a proud Canadian citizen when she turned 18 years old. Idalina was an avid reader of Portuguese novels and our resident master Portuguese chef, and enjoying challenging herself with English word puzzles. Her special talent was in making fine delicate crochet lace table linens, copied from view. Being close in age to her nieces and nephews we looked up to her for her sense of elegant style, sharp wit, and wisdom, and that heart melting smile with loving words that soothed all our tears. Idalina dedicated her time to help her sister Relinda and her mother at home, keeping a positive attitude and good spirit for us all. Fond memories will always be had of her calm elegant inner and outer beauty, endearing smile, and strong devotion to her family and her faith. Many thanks to Dr. Brandes, Jocelyn RN, and all the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, as well as the kind and caring staff at the Health Sciences Centre (D4 in 2006 and A4 in 2005) and Susan Findlay the Palliative Care Nurse. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Care Manitoba. Vigil Prayers 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Immaculate Conception Church.
