ALLAN BRAY Peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the age of 84, Allan Bray, of Oakville, MB passed away in Morristown, NJ following complications from open heart surgery. Allan is predeceased by his parents, John Henry Bray II and Edna Janet Bray; his brother Bob Bray; and his sisters, Dorthy Stewart and Melba Bartlett. Allan is lovingly remembered by his wife Florence Bray (nee Hamelin) of 62 years; his children, Lynne (Bill), Jack (Doreen), Ted (Pat) and Jill (Grant); his grandchildren, Kevin (Kerry), Julie (John), Matthew (Suzie), Kelly, Jon (Lindsay), Ben, Alec and Owen; his two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Morgan; his sister Blanche (Tony) Hamelin as well as many nieces and nephews, and other extended family. Allan was born in the family home in Oakville, MB on November 13, 1921. At age 18, Allan took over the family farm following his father's death. Like his father before him, Allan became a well-known horse dealer travelling and conducting business throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Later Allan supplied draft horses to the pulp and paper industry in Ontario and Quebec. As the use of horses declined in the pulp and paper industry through the 1960s, Allan became one of the original producers in the Pregnant Mare's Urine ( PMU ) industry. Allan's involvement in this industry continued until his passing. Through his years of travelling and horse dealing, Allan made many friends throughout Canada and the United States. What Allan enjoyed most was the time spent with family and friends. He loved to reminisce about the old days travelling Manitoba with his dad, meeting people and making horse deals. In later years, he enjoyed meeting his friends at the coffee shops in Oakville and Portage. Dad, you taught us to love life, enjoy it to the fullest and never look back with doubt or regret. We will always admire how you had the strength of mind to take on this recent difficult battle without fear or doubt. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Oakville, MB. A reception will follow in the Oakville Community Hall. (Private burial). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, in care of Catherine Newham, 103 Wilkinson Cres., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7, or the Knox United Church, 155-2nd Street, Oakville, MB R0H 0Y0. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Allan by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
