Date of Passing: Nov 14, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE BODNAR It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Rose Bodnar on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Riverview Health Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 78 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Metro; her son Raymond (Karen) Bodnar; her daughter Penny (John) Diffey. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Polly (Nick) Wicherenko, Verna Zelinski, Evelyn (Larry) Wheeler. Rose was born on March 5, 1928, in Pine Ridge, Manitoba in what is now Birds Hill Park. Rose lived next door to her childhood sweetheart Metro Bodnar. When Rose was 15 years old she moved to Winnipeg where she found a job as a nurse's aid at the Misericordia Hospital. Rose later found a job at Canada Packers where she worked at a variety of jobs for a total of 40 years. In 1954 she married Metro and together they bought a home on Archibald Street. She still wanted to continue working but was forced to retire when Packers closed down in 1988. Rose was always a hard worker and gave much love to her family and friends. She was known for her sense of humour even until her final days when she joked with the nurses at the Riverview Nursing Home even though she was in pain. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Coutu Chapel, 680 Archibald St. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away; Our hearts were almost broken, You fought so hard to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, So peacefully free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
